At the end of the summer your strawberries always send out runners in search of pastures new. Many gardeners cut them off and throw them away, but let's not waste the opportunity to grow even more!
As we know overtime old plants can get a bit leggy and tiered so its worth taking the stronger runners and repotting them on ready for the spring. They're super easy to grow and it's much cheeper than buying plants from the nursery in the new year.
You can keep them outside in a sunny cold frame or cool greenhouse, they will grow slowly and make sure not to overwater but keep them moist in well drained soil or compost and you'll have a great set of plants ready for the new year.
